Makena Gadient

Grow & Heal
Fuse Beads, 10"x30", 2019, NFS
Unframed, pinned to wall with 1 " nails, which I will provide.
Makena Gadient was taught to sew by her mother around the same time she her mother taught her to read and write. Gadient is focused on autobiographical narratives told through abstraction. For a few years she was worried that creating personal work using stereotypical feminine material would be exclusionary towards men, or would be considered craft. She is happiest when creating, no longer worried about those who do not like the stories she tells, or how she tells them. She spends her summers in the home she grew up in experimenting with new material alongside her family.
