My artwork examines the distortions of perception due to the limits of our physical constraints, our personal biases, and changes in perspective (both concrete and metaphorical).
My use of color-shifting pigments serve both as a hint at additional unseen dimensions as well as a way to illustrate our perceptual dependence on context—in this case, from changes in angles of illumination as one moves past each piece, and from changes in light intensity over the course of the day.
“The aim of Mathematical Physics is above all, to reveal the hidden harmony of things [and to make one] see them in a new way.”-Poincaré
As an artist & scientist, my work stems from the realization that scientific & artistic exploration share many basic concepts, the foremost being the attempt to see the world in a new way & to convey novel observations through experimentation. After 30+ yrs spent exploring both, I find that I approach & think about my artwork & scientific research are extremely similar, combining creativity, insight & rigor.
