"...Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in..."
- Leonard Cohen: "Anthem"
My photography ranges from documentary to "impressionist". I see the camera as a tool of engagement, sometimes like a tape recorder, sometimes like a paintbrush. I'm interested in history, identity, place, and ritual.
I believe that traveling the paths of art and science simultaneously can lead to greater discovery, insight, and the ultimate goal of transcendence.
Phil is a photographer specializing in cultural documentary and abstract “impressionist” photography. He shoots on-site at locations ranging from urban barbershops to remote elk fields.
His career as a hydrologist informs his work as he follows a process of observing/intuiting, gathering, synthesis, and sharing through presentation. A seeker by nature, he thrives on in-depth investigation / strives to convey the details and nuance of what's going on below the surface. He believes art is a transformative force for good.
