Rebecca’s visual voice, that is sympathetic to nature, is challenged.
Public lands are scheduled for escalated decimation by the feds and she has lost words to express her sorrow. So, she continues to paint tree images, but this year larger canvases and as metaphors with titles such as ‘Resist’, ‘Waiting or Waiting for Godot’, ‘Dancing at Oyster creek’, ‘Rumble at Silver Creek’ and ‘Sanctum’.
She knows it is critical to have joy, health, and wellness during this dark time of uncertainty. She does so through creativity.
Land has a bond with Rebecca due to her Scandinavian heritage from Minnesota, Oregon,Ostrobothnian farmers, pioneering Norwegians, and Swedish Lutheran ministers with their hymns of all that is light, greenly, and pure.
Since discovering Cornish College as a child, during the Seattle World’s Fair era, she has identified as an artist. She has exhibited across the US, and in solo shows at U. of Helsinki's Aula Gallery and the Nordic Museum. Residencies include Finland, Port Townsend, and near Cape Disappointment.
She studied at Cornish and WWU.
