in the company of imaginary friends
Acrylic on canvas, 36x48x1.5, 2026
I am an abstract painter. The key to my work is energy and motion. I approach painting with intense curiosity and a disregard for rules, which yields a playground for the eye.
I work in acrylic and oil, using a variety of paint application methods and exploring the interplay between complimentary and discordant colors. Using a wide color palette, I express therhythms of emotional experience. My paints dance and explode across the canvas, creating a world held in motion by the blink of the moment my medium takes solid form.
Ruby has a cross-cultural sensibility. A first generation American with roots in Germany, Ruby grew up in Colorado, and spent her college years and twenties in Europe. Ruby moved to Seattle in 1989, where she discovered the ideal environment for inner balance. Access to nature and the beauty of the northwest felt like home, while the arts and cultural community nourished her mind and imagination. This cross-cultural mix makes for an eclectic aesthetic, which plays out in her abstract paintings.
