Solo Artists
Occasionally, the concerns of a single artist either meshes uniquely with CoCA's curatorial mission or pushes us in a new direction. The curatorial process is usually a collaboration between the artist and the curator, with the goal of presenting the essence of an idea to CoCA's audience.

Jolly Rancher
Von Coffin

Curated by David Francis, PhD

Jolly Rancher's title echoes the famous candy that originated in Colorado, conjuring the image of happy western farmers, as well as the more sinister skull and crossbones of the pirate flag (the Jolly Roger). The exhibition includes the remains of a giant Easter Peep bird as well as wall-mounted, architecturally inspired sculptures each paired with a Jelly Belly jellybean flavor curated to enable visitors the opportunity to smell and taste in addition to viewing the artwork. This monogrpah, "Jolly Rancher", features texts by Aurora San Miguel, Joseph Buckley, Marisa Sae Nakasone, and David Francis, PhD, in addition to the menu that served as a guide to the exhibition.
