Invisible Cities
Acrylic and oil on panel, 6" x 9", 2024
This work was inspired by the book "Invisible Cities," by Italo Calvino.
My paintings explore the dynamics of abstract and representational visual events. I allow chance moments in the materials unfold, and then refine through sanding, scraping, and adding more layers of paint. The destination is always a state of visual balance that remains mysterious, unsettling, and strangely elegant. I am fascinated with the possibilities of psychological tension within the visual field, and using a variety of media to explore that realm.
